The program at Abacus Adventures is designed with the goal of sparking the children’s natural curiosity and imagination in a nurturing, supportive environment in order to maximize learning and development of each child.

  • During any day, we combine structured learning through ‘Circle Time’, when we focus on that day’s and week’s theme, with time for free play, when the children are given the opportunity the use their imagination and get to know each other in their own way.
  • The teachers facilitate play with a focus on the themes of the day and week.
  • While communication at the school in English, we have both native English and Czech speaking teachers on our staff.

The Curriculum at Abacus Adventures is designed to focus on the complete development of the child, including:

  • Personal and Social Skills
  • Language and Literacy
  • Arithmetic and Logic
  • Knowledge and Understanding
  • Creative Development

The school plan is organized around themes or topics, which enable the children to focus one the topic for one to two weeks in order to expand understanding and vocabulary. Themes often focus on the season, holidays, and the world around them. The children learn through an interactive curriculum that includes stories, reading, music, singing and exercise.

Cooperation with Parents

At Abacus Adventures, our goal is to involve the parents as much as possible in the day-to-day activities at the school.

  • Parents are often invited to the school for recitals and events with their children. In this informal setting, parents can share in their child’s progress and meet with the teachers.
  • Parent-teacher meetings are held every half year as a forum to discuss what’s new and planned in the school, activities, as well as any questions or concerns the parents may have. At any other time, we are always available to meet at the request of the parent to discuss any special issues or concerns.
  • We provide the parents with a brief daily report of their child’s day, including behaviour and learning, as well as a monthly newsletter, which recaps events at the school during the month (songs and vocabulary, activities, trips, plans for next month).
  • Twice a year, we have an open house when parents can visit the school and meet all members of the staff.
